Essential Oils for Shingles

Shingles is a short-lived viral infection of the nervous system that starts with fatigue, fever, chills and intestinal upset.  The affected skin areas become sensitive and prone to blistering.  One attack usually provides immunity for life.  However, for many people, particularly the elderly, pain can persist for months, even years.

Recommendations:

Single essential oils – Blue Cypress, Elemi, Idaho Tansy, Tea Tree ( Melaleuca alternaifolia ), Oregano, Mountain Savory, Sandalwood, Thyme, Peppermint and Ravensara

Essential Oil Blends – Australian Blue, Exodus II, Thieves

Shingles Recipe #1 –

  • 10 drops Roman Chamomile
  • 5 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Sandalwood
  • 2 drops Geranium

Shingles Recipe #2 –

  • 10 drops Sandalwood
  • 5 drops Blue Cypress
  • 4 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Ravensara

Apply 6-10 drops neat ( undiluted ) or dilute 50/50 with v-6 mixing oil on the affected area, back of neck and down the spine, 1-3 times daily.

NOTEOccurrences of shingles around the eyes or on the forehead can cause blindness.  Consult an eye doctor immediately if such outbreaks occur.
